No. We haven't seen anything suggesting Google is removing AI Overviews. It still appears at the top of Google Search results, where it reaches a very large audience, so it remains worth tracking in your Visibility Audit. We keep a close watch on how AI Overviews responds across Gumshoe, so if that changes, we'll know quickly.
Why do people think AI Overviews is going away?
Most of the worry starts with a Google search that didn't show an AI Overview. That's normal, and it always has been. Google decides search by search whether to show one, so plenty of searches return traditional results only. A missing AI Overview on a search isn't a sign the feature is going away.
Is it still worth tracking AI Overviews?
Yes. How often AI Overviews answers your Personas' Prompts is useful information on its own:
- A Prompt it answers shows you what your buyers read before they click any link, and whether your brand is part of it.
- A Prompt it doesn't answer shows you where your buyers are still seeing traditional search results, so your SEO is still doing the work there.
Watching that mix over time tells you whether AI Overviews is appearing more or less often for the questions your buyers ask.
How do I see which Prompts AI Overviews answered?
- Open your Project and select Conversations in the left menu.
- Use the Models filter to select AI Overviews.
- Look through your Prompts. When Google didn't show an AI Overview for a Prompt, that conversation shows no response.
To follow a single Prompt across runs, click the arrow on it to open its Prompt history, which shows that question across every Visibility Audit run it appeared in. For a full tour of the page, see How Do I Use the Conversations Page?
Should I also track Gemini?
Yes, if you aren't already. Gemini is Google's AI model that people use directly, outside of Search. Tracking it alongside AI Overviews shows you both ways Google's AI describes your brand: in Search results and in direct conversations.
To check, open your Project, click Settings in the left menu, and scroll to Model families. Select the help icon next to any model to see what it is, who typically uses it, and whether it uses live web search. Adding a model adds one conversation per Prompt per run, and the conversation total below the list updates before you save.
What should I do next?
Confirm that both AI Overviews and Gemini are selected in your Project's Model families. If either is missing, follow the steps in How do I change the models in an existing visibility audit?
