The project setup wizard runs forward, not in a loop. Once you move past the category step, Gumshoe creates the project. Going back through earlier wizard steps to edit a field is treated as creating a new project. If you save without changing the title, you will see the "Report Already Exists" message, because the title matches the project you already created.
This is intended behavior, not a bug. Here is how to get past it.
How do I save the changes I have made?
You have a few options:
- Rename and save as a new project. Change the title in the New Report Title field, then click Save as New. Gumshoe creates a second project with the new title and your edits. You will now have two projects; you can archive the older one from the Projects list.
- Abandon the draft and return to https://app.gumshoe.ai/go and start over.
- Archive the current project and start over. From the Projects page in your workspace, find the project, click the three-dot menu, and choose Archive. Then create a new project with the correct info from the start.
Why does Save as New do nothing when I click it?
Save as New creates a new project with a new title. If you have not changed the title in the field, there is nothing new to create, and the button will not do anything. Change the title first, then click the button.
What if I abandon setup before naming the project?
If you exit the wizard before the naming step, no project is created and nothing is saved. You can start fresh anytime.
How do I edit a project after it is created?
Most edits (personas, prompts, topics) can be made from the project itself after setup, not through the wizard. The wizard is only for the initial creation flow. If you cannot find where to edit something after setup, reach out to support.
Why does it say report instead of project?
Parts of the product still use the older wording. What this screen creates is a project, which holds your Visibility Audit (formerly known as a report) along with the other audits your plan includes.
