A batch is the unit Gumshoe uses to track a single content generation run. It includes everything produced from one click on Generate, plus the source and settings that produced it.
Shorthand: a batch is one self-contained piece of work Gumshoe runs for you, whether that's one article, one set of FAQs, or one rewrite.
What counts as one batch:
- One source: a heatmap cell, a Content audit card, or one Manual workflow run
- The settings or inputs you provided for that source
- The output Gumshoe produced
How do batches work from the Strategic Content Opportunities heatmap?
Each cell on the heatmap is one persona × topic pair. The relationship is one-to-one: one cell selected, one batch.
You can select multiple cells before clicking Generate. When you do, you get one batch per cell, and the template and writing style you picked apply to all of them.
For example, if you pick the FAQ template and select three cells, you'll get three FAQ batches, one per cell.
How do batches work from the Content audit?
Content audit analyzes your published pages and surfaces location-anchored recommendations grouped by category. Each card represents a recommendation linked to a URL on your site.
Clicking Generate content on a card produces one batch. The URL and content plan from the card pre-fill the dialog, and the template defaults to Custom, so the output follows that content plan. The relationship is one-to-one: one card actioned, one batch.
How do batches work from Manual content generation?
Manual content generation produces one batch per run. You can generate only one batch at a time; to create more, run the flow again.
What defines the batch depends on which Manual workflow you use:
- Generate new content: the template you pick, plus a persona, a topic, both, or neither.
- Improve writing: the content you paste in.
- Add FAQs to the existing page: the URL you supply.
Why do some batches contain multiple pieces of content?
Some templates produce a single composition:
- Knowledge article: one article per batch
- How-to guide: one guide per batch
- Competitor Comparison: one comparison per batch
Other templates produce a collection of related pieces in a single batch:
- FAQ: 4 to 6 short Q&A pieces (usually 5)
- Social post: multiple drafts tuned for LinkedIn, Reddit, and Quora
- Video outline: a structured outline with talking points
Even when a batch contains multiple pieces, it counts as one batch because it came from a single click on Generate.
