When you create content with Gumshoe's content generation, the finished piece includes small numbers in the text and a References section at the bottom. Here is what they mean and how to control them.
What do the numbers in my content mean?
Each number in the body of your content points to a source in the References list at the bottom of the piece. The number sits inline next to the point it supports, and the matching source appears beside that same number in the References section. So [1] in the text lines up with source [1] at the bottom. The source name is not repeated inline, which keeps the content readable while still showing where each point comes from.
Why does Gumshoe include references?
Content generation is built to create content that performs well with AI models. Backing each point with a source makes the content more authoritative and more likely to be used by AI models when they answer questions about your industry. The goal is to help your content become one of the sources those models draw from. Because the content is written for an AI audience, it can read more formally than typical marketing copy.
Can I choose which sources are used?
Yes. In the Reference sources step when you set up content generation, you can reference only your own website, or include industry sources as well. Gumshoe never includes your competitors.
