Gumshoe is organized in a few simple layers. Knowing how they fit together helps you keep your work organized as you track more brands, products, locations, or languages. Here is how everything stacks up, from the top down.
What are the layers in Gumshoe?
From the top down, your account is organized like this: a company account holds workspaces, each workspace holds projects, and each project holds a Visibility Audit (formerly known as a report) along with its associated audits and features.
- Company account: your top-level account and billing entity. It holds one or more workspaces.
- Workspace: a space inside your company account that holds one or more projects. Projects can be moved between workspaces.
- Project: one combination of brand, focus (a product or service), location, and language. A project holds its own Visibility Audit and features.
- Audits and features: the tools inside a project, starting with the Visibility Audit and including features like your Competitive Leaderboard, Citations, and Technical Audit.
What is a company account?
The company account is the top level, and it is where billing lives. It can hold as many workspaces as you need, so everything you do in Gumshoe sits somewhere under your company account.
What is a workspace?
A workspace sits inside your company account and groups related projects together. You can keep everything in a single workspace or spread work across several, for example one workspace per brand, region, or team. Because projects can move between workspaces, you can reorganize whenever your setup changes.
What is a project?
A project is scoped to one combination of brand, focus, location, and language, where focus is a specific product or service. Because a project is that specific, changing any one of those four means starting a new project. The same brand tracked for a new product, a new country, or a new language is a separate project. Each project carries its own subscription, which sets the audits and features available inside it. To see what each plan includes, visit the pricing page: https://gumshoe.ai/#pricing.
What lives inside a project?
Inside each project is your Visibility Audit (formerly known as a report), plus the associated audits and features for that project. This is where you see how AI models talk about your brand and where you take action to improve that visibility.
How does this look in practice?
Imagine a company called Northwind Coffee. Its company account is Northwind Coffee. Inside that account, it keeps one workspace for its retail business and another for wholesale. In the retail workspace, it runs one project for espresso machines and another for coffee subscriptions, each with its own Visibility Audit. When Northwind wants to track espresso machines for a Spanish-speaking audience, that becomes a separate project, because the language is different.
How do I switch between workspaces and company accounts?
You can switch at any time from the account dropdown in the top-left corner, where company accounts appear in bold with their workspaces listed underneath. For step-by-step directions, see this article.
Who can see and change each workspace?
Access works at two levels: you can give someone access to your entire company account, which covers every workspace, or to a single workspace only. Roles then decide what each person can do. For the full breakdown, see this article.
