Gumshoe issues two different kinds of billing documents. Which one you need usually depends on what your finance team requires.
What does Gumshoe generate automatically?
Every charge to a card on file produces a receipt, available in your Billing history. A receipt confirms that a payment was made, and for most accounts and most expense reports it is all you need.
To find a receipt:
- Click your account name in the top-left corner.
- Select Settings.
- Click Billing in the left navigation.
- Scroll to Billing history.
- Click View next to the charge you need.
Only admins with access to the company account settings can open billing documents.
What is a detailed invoice?
A detailed invoice is a formal document listing your company's legal name and billing address alongside Gumshoe's company and tax information. Finance and accounting teams often require this format, particularly in Europe, where a receipt alone is not sufficient for VAT records.
Gumshoe creates detailed invoices manually rather than generating them automatically, so they do not appear in Billing history.
How do I request a detailed invoice?
Ask for a human in chat, or email support@gumshoe.ai. Include:
- Your company's legal name
- Your company's billing address
- The charge or billing period the invoice should cover
You do not need to send your VAT number or tax ID. Gumshoe's own company and tax information is included on every invoice we issue.
Why do I already receive invoices by email?
Some accounts, including some agency partners and accounts with negotiated contracts, are billed on invoice terms rather than by card. Those invoices are sent from Gumshoe (sometimes through Intuit) and arrive by email. If you receive these, they are already formal invoices, and you do not need to request anything separately. You must pay these invoices through their payment portal, not via the Gumshoe product.
Can my account use both?
Yes. Some accounts are billed through a mix of both systems, depending on the agreement in place. Subscriptions are typically charged automatically to the card stored in Gumshoe, while contracted items such as discounted content or grandfathered audits are invoiced. If you are not sure which applies to your account, ask for a human and the team can confirm what is set up for you.
